Aberdare Pool

The site on this project was shared with Laing O’ Rourke as part of the Sobell School and Sports Centre.  The project was carried out under a short time frame for RCT council and due to the time constraints was issued as a Design & Build refurbishment.

The project was to decommission and remove the existing sauna, snooker room and 1st floor changing rooms. The scope of works was to design and install a first floor gym complex together with the refurbishment of the ground floor staff areas. This included a heat recovery system and a heat pump system for the gym and studio/fitness areas. This involved an intense amount of co-ordination with the roof services and working with the existing building fabric. On the roof the ventilation for the diving board was changed (which was on an elevated platform on the roof), this involved great involvement with health & safety management for the changeover.

The staff rooms were also fully refurbished and different services were provided in various places around the pool building.

Because the project needed to be finished before the Laing’s site had finished involved a tremendous amount of management and involved us liasing closely with the main contractor and client to quickly overcome design issues. The project was finished on time and the main contractor/client was impressed with the management of the works and our responsiveness to problems.
