Cymer Junior School Refurbishment, Rhondda Cynon Taff

A £1.9m building investment via the 21st Century School investment scheme has seen internal and external improvements to the school’s junior section, including extensive remodelling and refurbishment to deliver improvements to the late Victorian-era and 1960s buildings.

The mechanical installation was removed throughout the site and new LTHW heating, hot & cold domestic systems, ventilation including the school kitchen and sanitaryware including touch free washing troughs.

The LTHW system was split into a radiator variable circuit and a constant temperature circuit which served local fan convector heaters throughout the building.  The domestics system including a hot water return was installed throughout the building from the basement boilerhouse to serve all the WC areas and Kitchen.  Both the heating and domestics are controlled by a new Trend control system which can be remotely accessed by RCT.

The mains pipework was run throughout the building to ensure it was co-ordinated properly wit the electrical services and to maintain the fabric aesthetic inside especially within the Victorian building.  Geberit pipework was installed throughout the project as the client specified from the outside to use Carbon Steel pressfit for the heating.  We worked with Geberit to supply their system under their installer partner programme.

In helping us to check pipework runs with the existing building fabric we used a 3D scanning picture once the removals had been completed in order to remotely check the building fabric while producing working pipework drawings.
